2nd St. Rag Stompers - Camping On Low Or No Dollars
The 2nd St. Rag Stompers were a old-timey hobo-ragtime-blues-jug band type of band. They broke up a few years back. This album is neat, it's kind of like an old-timeyer Split Lip Rayfield kind of sound.

Moon Bandits - Straight Thinking Means Plain Speaking
I received this recommendation via email from bandmember Tommy. Moon Bandits is an awesome folk-punky band with really catchy melodies and some nice banjo-ing. I am really enjoying this. They sound like they might enjoy Ramshackle Glory. Perfect usage of banjo.

Mr. Denim - At Least We'll All Be Dead Soon
Download
http://mrdenim.bandcamp.com/album/at-least-well-all-be-dead-soon
07-Sept-12 : So amusingly, i got a DMCA takedown notice on this album even though i have the express written consent of the owner/creator of this album. Fighting mediafire on it, hold tight.
Mr. Denim is a band. I know nothing about them except that they are a cool two-piece folk-punk band sort of similar to early (acoustic) Andrew Jackson Jihad. Diggin it, diggin it. Also they are from Chicago.
UPDATE: After i posted this the first time, I got an email from Tyler Crain of Mr. Denim, who was already a reader of my blog! I got a little more info on the band:
"I write to you today, at this ungodly hour, mostly because I flipped shit when I saw that you posted Mr. Denim. I know that band, because I am one half of that band. My good buddy Janusz Gal plays double bass, and I play guitar and yell."
He is a really nice dude and I have been listening to this album a lot since I posted it. It really rules so you should all check it out. Every song is fantastic, perfect folk-punk.
Check it out via the bandcamp link for now because as noted below i got a bogus DMCA claim from some jerkwad who does not own this music. Also check out their other albums on their bandcamp page!

Paul Newman and the Ride Home - The Importance of Being Earnest Hemingway (2011)
Bandmember Jacob sent me this via email. Paul Newman and the Ride Home is a 5-piece band from Baltimore. This album is like folky-pop-punk. Reminiscent of Fake Problems, except more pop-punk than that. It is a pretty awesome album!

Slow Teeth - Demos
The last.fm page is similarly bare, saying only "Slow Teeth sounds like vaudevillian anarchofolk, a haunted cabaret." Archive.org says they're from Portland. That's all I got.
They're kind of like Blackbird Raum or Dandelion Junk Queens. The songs are really catchy and great which is always a nice surprise when you basically find something on the back shelf of the internet with two years worth of dust on it.
'Dead Sailors' and 'Oh, Penny' are in particular very good songs.

The Wild - Set Ourselves Free
The Wild is a band from Atlanta. They're a folk-punk band is vageuly the same ballpark as Rosa. Tremendous, start to finish. If you're here, chances are you'll like this.
Seriously, EVERY PERSON WHO IS READING THIS should listen to this album. Look at that cover! The songs are even better than that!

Sloppy Folk - Experience SA-Folk-Punk
A mystery reader/band member whose email name is "Dust Man" sent me this album of his folk-punk band from South Africa. It's 22 songs, including a great Crass cover and a great Wingnut Dishwashers Union cover. It's a really awesome album, with some shouty songs and some slower songs, and both punk and classic folk influence. Everything you could want in a folk-punk album. You will NOT be disappointed.

Songs for Moms - I Used to Believe in the West
edit: yes, i did forget the link for a week. i suck
So i was like 'what? songs for moms? what is this?"
Songs for Moms is an all-female punk trio from the Bay Area. I didnt know what the Bay Area was, i had to look it up. Turns out its San Francisco. Ive never been there so i didnt know that name.
Songs for Moms helped to found the Bay Area Girls Rock Camp, which is pretty much what it sounds like.
Anyway they have an almost This Bike-ish sound, or like Abe Froman.
Kill Coyotes is a really awesome song, gotta hear that one.
I was kinda all over the place here, but its a really good album. Trust Me.

Defiance, Ohio Splits
Hello!
Today, i am making a three-album post in anticipation of Defiance, Ohio's new album, Midwestern Minutes, due out on July 6th. (Make sure you buy it!)
But new albums come out all the time, you say! Why the enthusiasm, you say!
It's because Defiance, Ohio is one of my favourite bands of all time. It's pretty simple really. So here's some splits from their earlier years.

Defiance, Ohio and Environmental Youth Crunch (2007)
http://www.mediafire.com/?e2mdizjmjgz
Four songs. Two Defiance, Ohio; two Environmental Youth Crunch. One of which is a cover of Fortunate Son!
If anyone has anything else EYC ever made, i've never found it. Share!
Defiance Ohio and Ghost Mice (2004)
http://www.mediafire.com/?ykwmtyljmom
Ten songs, five of each. One of my favourite Defiance, Ohio tracks is on this album.
That song is Tanks! Tanks! Tanks!
This album is worth listening just for that song, but the whole thing is very strong and is a perfect demonstration of Defiance, Ohio's earlier sound.
Defiance, Ohio and One Reason (2004)
http://www.mediafire.com/?l2nzgmnimhe
As far as i know, the only other thing One Reason ever released besides the aforelinked LP. Two songs each.
I really think that Defiance, Ohio hit upon a truly special sound with the music from this era (ESPECIALLY Share What Ya' Got). A perfect blend of like... (Young) Pioneers, Jawbreaker, and plan-it-x style folk-punk.
Part of me wishes they would record another Share What Ya' Got. As much as i love all their music, and as much as i look forward to Midwestern Minutes, Share What Ya' Got was a life-changing album for me (for reference, three other life-changing albums were Tom Waits' Rain Dogs and The Heart of Saturday Night, and Andrew Jackson Jihad's People Who Can Eat People are the Luckiest People in the World).

Last to Leave - We Drank some M.D... Stuff Happened... I'm Not a Virgin Anymore
Another album from new find Last to Leave. I've been listening to that live album so much i figured i had to post a non-live album. There are just so many OUTSTANDING songs on these albums. I look forward to more from these guys in the future.
Standout tracks: "I Hope You Come Around", "Me and You", "Busk My Life Away".
I also really like the title of this album. No cover though, sorry. I don't even know if one exists.
"When i think of home, you know i'm thinking of you. When i pour a drink, you know i'm really pouring two. If i go to hell, man, i would be so blue... unless it meant i would get to spend the rest of my life with you."

Last to Leave - Live At The Xeno Haus (12/19/09)
Last To Leave, on this live show billed as "Last Avian To Leave Orchestra", is a band from Reno, NV. I know practically nothing about this band, and i correspondingly have no friggin clue where i found these recordings. All i know is that this live recording is a wonderful collection of folk-punk songs in the vein of Rosa and early Defiance, Ohio. Also contains a pretty great cover of Wingnut Dishwashers Union's "Fuck Shit Up".
So here, you go, internet. All the songs are great.
Folk-punk translates well to live recordings. Many other types of music suffer in a live recording format.

Mallory - Strange Homes (2010)
New album from Amherst, MA folk-punk band Mallory. I got specific and unsolicited permission to post this album on my blog, which is pretty awesome.
For anyone who liked Lights in the Quarry, Strange Homes has everything that made that album so great, and it has MORE of it. It shows an evolution of their distinctive take on the folk-punk sound, branching out with accordions, banjos and such things. The whole album is enjoyable start to finish and never lags.
A perfect example of why acoustic instruments of all sorts are superior to electric instruments of any sort.

Evil Robot Us'/Abusing the Word Split
Split from Abusing the Word and Evil Robot Us'. As i mentioned in the Evil Robot Us' post from uh... the first day of this blog, they have a demo and this split (which i just tracked down) in addition to their one EP.
I had never heard of Abusing the Word and downloaded this just because i love Evil Robot Us', but i was pleasantly surprised by the entire split.

Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains - Chaos Infiltration Squad!
Another album from Johnny Hobo (aka Pat the Bunny aka i have no idea what his real name is) and the Freight Trains.
As always, the incredible songs more than make up for the low recording quality.
Incidentally, here is an extremely interesting interview with Pat the Bunny.

Blackbird Raum - Under the Starling Host (2009)
Newest album from Blackbird Raum, the best banjo/accordion/singing saw/washtub bass/washboard anarcho-folk-punk band around.
Blackbird Raum formed out of the nucleus of a squatter community living in abandoned buildings and greenbelt treehouses in Santa Cruz, CA, in the early 2000's. Finding themselves living without electricity, they began to learn to play folk instruments from each other and other members of the traveling punk/folk culture. They all grew up playing in anarcho-punk, indie and ska bands and then, knowing next to nothing about traditional music, slowly gathered together the skills to create a new genre of music, based somewhere right in the middle of punk and folk.
Refusing the retro cliches of many of their contemporaries, they write entirely original music (in both senses of the word) that is reflective of the world they live in: a realm of abusive police, ecological devastation, creeping ambiguity and vague fear, but also a strong sense of community and a deep love of a natural world constantly on the verge of collapse. They jump back and forth between extremely fast metal-influenced jug band dance numbers and quasi-medieval chant-and-drone while doing herky-jerky hardcore-influenced time signature gymnastics... - - - http://www.blackpowderrecords.com/raum/
Anyone who has read my blog for more than 5 minutes (most don't), knows that i have a special love for old-timey folk, and same aforementioned influence applied to modern music that dominates my music preferences.
¿Fung Wah Bus? - Thicker Than Fiddlers in Hell
Folk/folk-punk band from Connecticut. Reminds me of Rosa.
'Hugs are Drugs' specifically stands out as an excellent song.
As part of an ongoing campaign by Reality to make me feel bad about my accomplishments at the age of 22, the members of this band are still in high school.

Wingnut Dishwashers Union - Burn The Earth, Leave it Behind
The newer project from Pat the Bunny, of Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains. The recording quality is a little higher than some of his past work, and theres no trumpet as per Johnny Hobo, and it has more to do with politics than drugs, but the songs are still incredible. He has a fantastic songwriting talent and manages to do so much with so little (in terms of instrumentation and complexity). It's very personality-driven music.
Recently, Pat the Bunny had this to say, on his website:
"December 6, 2009
I have entered a year long treatment program for addiction. During this time I will not be able to send or receive mail. I'm sorry to people who ordered things and did not get them. It's very unclear whether I will keep playing punk rock music when that peiod of time is over. I wish that I knew more, but nothing is certain right now. Thank you for liking songs that I wrote, and helping me not feel so alone a lot of the time.
(pat the bunny)"
So it might seem contrived of me to say so but i hope all goes well because i love the songs this man writes. One of the best folk-punk artists around, no question.

Attica! Attica! - Napalm and Nitrogen (2009)

Attica! Attica! is Aaron Scott and friends. This album was posted for free (donations encouraged) on his website (http://atticaattica.org/), to support him as he tours the East Coast of the US via bicycle.
Napalm and Nitrogen is a folk-punk album. Like Sundowner mixed with Mischief Brew, singing songs about people and wanderlust. The album kinda took me by surprise by being different from and better than i expected. He is quite a talented singer and theres a piano ballad or two to break up the folk-punk!
On another note, i am moving this weekend so probably won't find time to post. Not that anyone gives a shit but if anyone is thinking "that asshole usually posts 3 or 4 albums every weekend, whats goin on here" it is because i am hauling furniture around. I'll be back unless i explode or get lost or eaten or something i dunno.
