Cotton Jones is Michael Nau and Whitney McGraw (both formerly of indie-pop darlings Page France). Here, they make a sound evocative of '60s folk and soul albums. It's a very cool sound, complete with Hammond organ and spring-reverbed guitars. Not one second of it seems derivative or contrived in the least, it's just a very special type of homage.

Found this the other day, immediately loved it. Garage-punk-soul music courtesy of Mick Collins (formerly of The Gories). All but one of these songs are covers of old R&B and Motown songs. It's pretty fantastic, and these songs definitely work with this kind of loud, electric sound. Two bass players, two drummers, and a guitar.

Honestly, I'm surprised this band isn't bigger than they are. This album is good. Really good. So I'm sure it's just a matter of time. Kind of like a British version of The Black Keys playing old R&B or soul. Fantastic vocals, catchy choruses, and eminently danceable. Keep an eye out for this band.
