Voices - No Longer Capable

Voices was a melodic hardcore band from Calgary. I know some of the dudes who were in it. I think they might be fans of Ruiner. I mean really, everyone should be fans of Ruiner.

Talk Hard - White Flag

Download Discography

So here is another album I have been trying to track down forever. I think i found this one song, Intelligent Design (below) in like 2007 but never managed to track down the album itself until last week. It is way out of print and it's almost impossible to even find anything on the band itself. They were from Boston, and split up ages ago. The End. No pictures, no track names. I have nothing. You can find a couple of their other albums in dark corners of the internet but this one is the best, in my opinion.

Continents. - ...and silence anchored our feet in granite (2012)

Download

I was sent this album by Continents bandmember Flo. Continents is a band from Dresden, Germany that plays a very cool mix of melodic hardcore and chaotic screamo type music. I am quite excited to have been introduced to this because it is really a killer album, through and through. Great vocals, great songs, great instrument-work. If you like The Saddest Landscape you will likely enjoy this!

CH CH CHECK IT OUT!

Apart - Gray Light

I got an email from Randall of hardcore band Apart, asking me to check out their new album. Now, as you might know, I am not a very good writer (too brief). There is a very good review here. It's what I would like to say if didn't exhaust my writing capability at 12 lines.

However, I will say that this is an extremely good album, a great mix of older screamo and modern melodic hardcore. Love love the drums on this album. The whole thing is great, been listening to it all night. Get on board now because this band is going to be a big fucking deal.

Back to Odd - Homemade Demos

http://www.mediafire.com/?ge4y4kc7ov3vr3t

I received an email from Carlos, of Brazilian melodic hardcore band Back To Odd, asking me to check out his band. I am glad he did because this album is really pretty cool! Some rough punk rock. I love the sound of this demo.

Traveler - Nothing Lasts Long Enough (2012)

http://www.mediafire.com/?ylxjax2jyx0t4kc

I got two emails from members of this band within 5 days of each other! Thanks Justin and Nick.

Traveler is a melodic hardcore band from Cleveland. The music they play is stylistically similar to some of the other melodic hardcore i have posted in the past (Defeater, Ages, Almost Home, Rescuer), which are all great bands. Traveler is no exception to this pattern. This is a great EP, if a little too short. I look forward to future releases from these guys.

I am having some technical difficulties with OpenDrive right now but the songs are available for streaming and free download (and purchase) at Bandcamp below.

Rescuer - Some Things You Just Have To Let Go Of

http://www.mediafire.com/?bix58e4y792dods

Rescuer is a melodic hardcore band from Tampa, Florida. They are in the same ballpark as Ruiner or Defeater. This album is hells of rad.

I hope that when I post hardcore stuff, the people that just came here for quiet folk music give it a listen, and vice versa. People should try to broaden their musical horizons. You can't just listen to the same stuff forever. My digital music library is at 24481 songs (1633 artists) and counting (and yes i can identify nearly all of it by ear, except the new stuff i haven't gotten around to listening to yet).

ANYWAY THIS IS RAD CHECK IT OUT

Ages - Sleep On It

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?7a6wye11sz8xm9g

Ages is a melodic hardcore band from Cleveland. Reminiscent of Ruiner (who we miss every day) and Defeater.
This whole album is ten songs but only 14 minutes long. They are short songs. In fact, the longest song is 1:55.

The Assistant - The Assistant

The Assistant was a band from the late 90s, from NJ. Formed from the ashes of You And I. This is a very interesting album - it has clear influence from a variety of different things. It goes from grindcore stuff, to screamo stuff, mathy stuff, to 1905-ish clean female vocals. There is even a pop-punk-ish song!

I have been diggin on this album the past week. Perhaps you will dig on it as well

Corn on Macabre - Chapters I & II with Deleted Scenes

Corn on Macabre (hilarious name!) was a screamo/grindcore/emoviolence/whatever band that was around in the early 00's. Kinda like pg.99.
I just found this album and it is FUCKING AWESOME!
13 songs, 12 minutes.

This shitty blog is brought to you by one lone idiot so yeah it doesnt get updated much. At least the few months when i was doing a mediocre job are still up to make it look better

The Kodan Armada - Collections

The Kodan Armada was a band from Louisville, KY. Screamo/emoviolence/whatever in the vein of Orchid and such bands. If you like such musics as that, you will likely enjoy this!

Witch Hunt - As Priorities Decay (2004)

Debut album from Philadelphia anarcho-crust-punk band Witch Hunt. Since discovering this band last fall they have rapidly shot up the list of my most-listened-to bands. I think theyre like #7 now or something. What i mean by this is that they are extremely good. This earlier album sounds different from their later stuff; it is a little less polished and a little more frantic. But man is it awesome. Great steering-wheel drumming music.

My favourite tracks are "Mindless Indentity" and "Sugarcoated Yet it Festers Inside".

Ampere - The First Five Years

Ampere is a hardcore band from Amherst, Massachusetts. Orchid guitarist Will Killingsworth is a member of this band, formed in 2002. If you're familiar with Orchid you'll know what to expect. Very short (more than half the songs are under one minute long, the longest is just 2:10), pissed off, emotional, intellectual hardcore.

Orchid - Orchid (2001)

Self-titled album from screamo progenitors Orchid, who were from Amherst, MA and around from 1997-2002. Between them and pg.99 is everything screamo could have been before the 00's happened and the genre was co-opted by terrible radio-friendly pop-rock "screamo" bands (Thurday, Thrice, The Used). The other side of that is the fact that almost all first-wave screamo bands around these days are French, repetitive, and terribly unoriginal; doomed to rehash Orchid and Joshua Fit For Battle riffs until the end of time.
For a pictoral example of what i am talking about/how i am saying it, click here. I swear i don't normally look like that.

Anyway Orchid is still awesome.

And YES screamo is a terrible genre name but its understandable and theres no way in hell i'm calling anything 'skramz'.

Evil Robot Us'/Abusing the Word Split

Split from Abusing the Word and Evil Robot Us'. As i mentioned in the Evil Robot Us' post from uh... the first day of this blog, they have a demo and this split (which i just tracked down) in addition to their one EP.

I had never heard of Abusing the Word and downloaded this just because i love Evil Robot Us', but i was pleasantly surprised by the entire split.

Appalachian Terror Unit - It's Far From Fucking Over

West Virginian anarchist crust punk band with dual male/female vocals as per Witch Hunt.

And a word on my genre tags: while i could be more specific with the genres i don't want a list of tags three pages long with like one entry per category. I try to maintain a balance between specificity and succinctness.

Joshua Fit For Battle - To Bring Our Own End

Late '90s screamo band out of Newark, Delaware. Now defunct. Along with such bands as pg. 99, part of the so-called "first wave" of screamo (aka skramz), to be differentiated from such infinitely lamer bands such as Thursday and The Used.
First wave screamo draws a lot more heavily from hardcore and has much fewer clean vocals than later screamo. It also seems unlikely you would hear this on mainstream radio.

Such song titles as 'Destroying From the Inside Out Kinda Like Cancer' and 'Fuck The Men in Her Life' give you an idea of the tone of this album.
