Malon - Reverie (2012)

Malon is a really cool twinky emo/screamo band from San Diego. I imagine that people who enjoy that mix of styles like early The Saddest Landscape would likely enjoy this.
This album rules a lot so you should listen to it.

Secret Arms - New Colonies

Secret Arms is a band from Miami, playing a killer screamo/post-hardcore type of thing. Kind of similar to late 90s screamo like Hot Cross or You And I. I got an email from Tyler of Secret Arms introducing me to the band and seeing if I could post about it and I said HECK YES.
Because it is a really super good record.

Continents. - ...and silence anchored our feet in granite (2012)

Download

I was sent this album by Continents bandmember Flo. Continents is a band from Dresden, Germany that plays a very cool mix of melodic hardcore and chaotic screamo type music. I am quite excited to have been introduced to this because it is really a killer album, through and through. Great vocals, great songs, great instrument-work. If you like The Saddest Landscape you will likely enjoy this!

CH CH CHECK IT OUT!

Knowing We'll Never Grow Up - I Think I Hate Myself (2012)

Knowing We'll Never Grow Up is a rad 90's style screamo/emo type of band from Salt Lake City. This album is really super good so you should check it out.

damezumari - 2004-2007

Damezumari is a band from Tulsa, OK. They are sort of a screamo/emo blend in the vein of The Saddest Landscape, but mathier, i think. I am enjoying this quite a bit this evening.
This collection is apparently 33 songs recorded from 2004-2007, which appear to be the same ones provided for free on the band's website here.

I picked this album cover (even though it is a split) because it looks the coolest

Ravachol - Great Moments in the Void

Ravachol is a band from somewhere in the UK. They have an interesting screamo-vocals-over-clean-guitars type sound with lady vocals. They also seem to take influence from political-type hardcore music some.
It is quite delightful, i enjoy this.

The Saddest Landscape - Lift Your Burdens High, For This Is Where We Cross (2004)

Okay so i'm sure lots of people have heard of this band already, but i'm also sure a lot of people haven't. The Saddest Landscape is a band from Boston, a self-described "bunch of nerds in a band that live, breathe, and eat music". They're fairly unique in that they play a blend of the chaotic screamo of the 90's with the twinkly emo of also the 90s.
Now, the problem (not really a problem) i have with TSL is that they might be way too fucking good for their own good. They make everyone else look bad. Every song on every album is amazing and heartwrenching, and the screaming of the lead singer (i don't know any of their names) is probably the best screaming i've heard anywhere. It is shocking how much emotion is contained within that screaming.
TSL has also improved with every album and I look forward to many more TSL albums to come.

Of course, in my real life where i have a few friends that tolerate me when they have to, i know exactly 0 people that share my love of 90s emo and 2 people that have marginal enthusiasm for 90s screamo. If any of my real life friends wish to correct this statement let me know.
Although i do super wish those two genre names hadn't been ruined by the lots of shitty "emo" and "screamo" bands that existed in the mid-2000's. Trust me, there is an enormous amount of incredible music in both of those genres. Browse post labels over there ---->

Anyway, i highly, highly recommend The Saddest Landscape. Please enjoy.

...who calls so loud - self titled

"Thus they continued to ask each other who called so loud, over and over again; and when Smike had that by heart, Nicholas went to another sentence, and then to two at a time, and then to three, and so on, until at midnight poor Smike found to his unspeakable joy that he really began to remember something about the text."

This album and band are super fucking rad. Ex-members of Funeral Diner and Portraits of Past. So you already know itll be awesome.

The Assistant - The Assistant

The Assistant was a band from the late 90s, from NJ. Formed from the ashes of You And I. This is a very interesting album - it has clear influence from a variety of different things. It goes from grindcore stuff, to screamo stuff, mathy stuff, to 1905-ish clean female vocals. There is even a pop-punk-ish song!

I have been diggin on this album the past week. Perhaps you will dig on it as well

The Apoplexy Twist Orchestra - Create the New

The Apoplexy Twist Orchestra was a German screamo band around from '01 to '04.
They are very good they sound kinda like Orchid, which is rad. Chances are you already know if you like this type of music or not.

Under a Dying Sun - Under a Dying Sun

Looks, i know from the download counts that nobody gives half an ass about my taste for 90's style screamo. Tough titties.

Under a Dying Sun falls somewhere between that and 90s emo. Kind of similar to 1905 in some ways. Less screaming than what would normally fall under screamo but the instrumentation is similar.

Corn on Macabre - Chapters I & II with Deleted Scenes

Corn on Macabre (hilarious name!) was a screamo/grindcore/emoviolence/whatever band that was around in the early 00's. Kinda like pg.99.
I just found this album and it is FUCKING AWESOME!
13 songs, 12 minutes.

This shitty blog is brought to you by one lone idiot so yeah it doesnt get updated much. At least the few months when i was doing a mediocre job are still up to make it look better

The Kodan Armada - Collections

The Kodan Armada was a band from Louisville, KY. Screamo/emoviolence/whatever in the vein of Orchid and such bands. If you like such musics as that, you will likely enjoy this!

Ampere - The First Five Years

Ampere is a hardcore band from Amherst, Massachusetts. Orchid guitarist Will Killingsworth is a member of this band, formed in 2002. If you're familiar with Orchid you'll know what to expect. Very short (more than half the songs are under one minute long, the longest is just 2:10), pissed off, emotional, intellectual hardcore.

Shotmaker - The Complete Discography 1993-1996

FUCK MY LIFE I HAD A HUGE THING WRITTEN HERE AND BLOGGER DELETED IT. FUCK YOU BLOGGER!!! I BLAME MACHINES FOR SOMETHING THAT IS PROBABLY MY FAULT.

okay fuck it. basically what it was about is this band, Shotmaker.
Shotmaker was a band from Belleville, Ontario. This collection is everything recorded during their short existence.

i had some sentence about how Shotmaker is one of those bands with a cult following like Drive Like Jehu and Jawbreaker. i had said how the combination of being a genre landmark, particularly one from the early 90s, that still stands the test of time is a surefire recipe for cult status. also, all three bands ive mentioned are fucking awesome.

Occuring stylistically somewhere in the neighbourhood of Drive Like Jehu and Orchid.

'Failure' is a standout track.

The first copy of this post was better i swear. I cant write it twice because when i type these im basically just talking to myself. my writing style is talking to myself.

Orchid - Orchid (2001)

Self-titled album from screamo progenitors Orchid, who were from Amherst, MA and around from 1997-2002. Between them and pg.99 is everything screamo could have been before the 00's happened and the genre was co-opted by terrible radio-friendly pop-rock "screamo" bands (Thurday, Thrice, The Used). The other side of that is the fact that almost all first-wave screamo bands around these days are French, repetitive, and terribly unoriginal; doomed to rehash Orchid and Joshua Fit For Battle riffs until the end of time.
For a pictoral example of what i am talking about/how i am saying it, click here. I swear i don't normally look like that.

Anyway Orchid is still awesome.

And YES screamo is a terrible genre name but its understandable and theres no way in hell i'm calling anything 'skramz'.

Joshua Fit For Battle - To Bring Our Own End

Late '90s screamo band out of Newark, Delaware. Now defunct. Along with such bands as pg. 99, part of the so-called "first wave" of screamo (aka skramz), to be differentiated from such infinitely lamer bands such as Thursday and The Used.
First wave screamo draws a lot more heavily from hardcore and has much fewer clean vocals than later screamo. It also seems unlikely you would hear this on mainstream radio.

Such song titles as 'Destroying From the Inside Out Kinda Like Cancer' and 'Fuck The Men in Her Life' give you an idea of the tone of this album.

Maths - MMVII

British independent screamo band. Similar to Loma Prieta and Battle of Wolf 359. This is a compilation CD of songs from their demo, previous EP and some live stuff.

They released a new full length in 2009 called Descent.

1905 - Voice (2002)

1905 actually reminds me a lot of Evil Robot Us' (the 3rd post i ever made) in its dynamic male/female singing, quiet/loud playing way.

Oh happy new year/decade, friends i know and anonymous internet people i don't know. May it confuse you when you are writing the date for the next approximately 4 months.
