Everyone Asked About You - S/T (1997)

http://www.mediafire.com/?e006a6un3b3c2s8

Everyone Asked About You was a band from Little Rock, AR. I know pretty much nothing else about them. They have a tripod site http://eaay.tripod.com/. I for one did not know that tripod even still existed.
I am pretty sure this band is not around anymore, but they were a cool 90s emo type band.

Carissa's Wierd - Tucson (2011)

http://www.mediafire.com/?vm19vnd4k1e9e82

Okay i just had to post this. Some of you may not have heard, but Carissa's Wierd released this EP in September after an eight-year hiatus. Anyone who has spent some time around my blog should know that CW is one of my favourite bands of all-time, so this is somewhere in the neighborhood of the best news ever.

It is definitely in my top hopes right now that Carissa's Wierd continues to make more music, and not return to their hiatus. I hope they don't mind me posting this but i want to make sure everyone knows about it.

764-HERO - Get Here And Stay (1998)

764-HERO was a band from Seattle, from 1995 to 2002. Sounds kinda like Built to Spill. It makes me nostalgic for the 90s. Hey everyone, remember the 90s and how cool they were? Everyone who grew up in the 90s, high fives!

But actually this is an extremely good album, I recommend it (obviously). Even if you didnt grow up in the 90s.

S - Sadstyle

This is really a very special album. This is the solo project of Jenn Ghetto, formerly of Carissa's Wierd. It seems like Jenn Ghetto may have been the real heart of that band, as this album is as heart-wrenching in every way. Not as orchestrated as Carissa's Wierd, but still really spectacular.
My favourite songs are "I Love You Too...", "Elevator", and "Anti-Love Song".

"and the more i hear the more i want to leave this town behind and leave all of you crying all over someone that you just can't have again love again drink again find someone else that you know cause you know it will make you feel better cause you better feel something why else would you be here"

If anyone still reads this blog (considering how infrequently i update), don't miss this one.

Carissa's Wierd - You Should Be at Home Here (2001)

Carissa's Wierd (no that is not a spelling mistake that is how the band name is spelled) might just be the most consistently sad sounding band i've heard. Not like mopey boo-hooing by any means, they just hit a sweet spot with their sound.

I've never heard any band quite like Carissa's Wierd, and they do that without being senselessly abstract or baroque. Straight ahead instrumentation, singing, and structure, just done simply perfectly. They don't get enough recognition.
i won't need anymore memories
for the next 50 years i could still write you love songs
i won't need anymore photographs
to remember the color of the clothes you wore that night

the summer we went west - Following the Holy Moon Goddess

the summer we went west was a Maryland band, around from 2005-2007. 'Emo' in the vein of Snowing or Castevet. Aka the good kind of 'emo'

Their unusually cool name somehow perfect communicates the sound of their music.

All their material is available on their website: http://www.thesummerwentwest.com/

Eric's Trip - Love Tara (1993)

Band from Moncton, NB that was around from 1990-1996, briefly in 2001, and from 2006-current to play a few shows here and there.
Reminds me quite a bit of Sebadoh, going back and forth between acoustic songs and messy Dinosaur Jr. type songs.
Bassist Julie Doiron currently has a successful solo career. Which includes, incidentally, a fantastic collaboration album with Phil Elverum (Mount Eerie).

Kind Of Like Spitting - The Thrill of the Hunt (2006)

Kind Of Like Spitting was around from 1996-2006. KOLS was essentially a vehicle for singer-songwriter Ben Barnett's songs.
This was their last (and i think, best) album. Throughout KOLS's large discography there are tons of really amazing songs, but i think this is the most solid whole album. Something about it feels oddly, undeniably, familiar or nostalgic to me but i can't quite put my finger on it.

Arrows - Knives Are Falling From The Sky (2007)

Arrows (currently known as Cursed Arrows), released their debut album in 2007. Featuring husband-and-wife duo Ryan Stanley (formerly of The Vermicious Knid) and Jackie Stanley, Arrows draws influence from Nirvana and The Pixies to some extent. It's loud, towering, emotional, and thoroughly enjoyable.

Carissa's Wierd - Ugly but Honest (1999)

Carissa's Wierd was a band that was around from 1995 to 2003, at which point its various members formed Band of Horses, S, and The Grand Archives. I don't remember where I found this album originally but I've had it for a long time. It's slow, quiet, at times heartbreakingly sad.

Last.fm calls this slowcore but I outright refuse to call anything 'slowcore' as that's a stupid genre name. So into the catchall 'indie' it goes. Maybe 'alternative' as well, as it was the 90s' 'indie'. I have a system... kind of. Really the genres are meant to be specific enough to be helpful without being too specific.

wat

Update: this is actually among my most favourite albums of ALL TIME.

sub.bionic - you i lov/// (2001)

Tracks:
1. Last Song on Earth
2. Plum
3. sub.bionic Radio
4. Quasi-Dead
5. Love Trans Holistic Bottle
6. Hush
7. God in Neutral
8. Reply (Without Recourse)
9. From: Achtung Moon
10. Phonophobic
11. Heart Attack
12. Blumonster
13. Nuclear Bomb Parade

This band seems to have truly fallen off the face of the earth. They made 3 albums between 2001 and 2005, of which this was the only one to be released on a label. I haven't been able to find any information on what happened to them after 2005, so I think it's safe to assume they don't exist anymore.

Anyway, they sound somewhat like Radiohead but not really like a ripoff of Radiohead. Really, the album is worth checking out just on the strength of 'God in Neutral'.
