Black Love - Black Love

Black Love is a band from Montreal. They play a neat sort of post-hardcore music, with some cool guitar leads that you don't usually hear in this kind of music but some screamo influences as well. Really cool!

Secret Arms - New Colonies

Secret Arms is a band from Miami, playing a killer screamo/post-hardcore type of thing. Kind of similar to late 90s screamo like Hot Cross or You And I. I got an email from Tyler of Secret Arms introducing me to the band and seeing if I could post about it and I said HECK YES.
Because it is a really super good record.

Bad Liar - Yours Truly

http://www.mediafire.com/?99qpj3ny4yux0e6

Bad Liar is Jack Brown, from Oakland/Bay Area (is that a correct designation of two places? i don't know). After listening to it a few times in a row I would say a pretty good way to describe it would be having Hot Water Music-y vocals over a sort of loud emo structure with maybe some shoegazeyness to the guitars? I dunno. It rules though, check it out

Desiderata - Alcohawk

Download

Desiderata member Blair introduced me to his band via email (as well as his other band, Audio/Rocketry). Desiderata is a jazz-punky post-hardcore band from Edmonton, Alberta. This album is totally fuckin rad, I hope i will get to see them play sometime in the future.

Sinatra - Thus Far

Download

Coming from Songs From The Road records, Sinatra hails from Alexandria, VA. They are a rad post-hardcore/screamo-y band.

Stalwart Sons - Burn Daylights Like Torches

Stalwart Sons is a post-hardcore type of band from my hometown of Calgary. I haven't seen them live, but they were recommended to me by my good friend Rob of Ghost Factory. I hope to see them around someday.

Shotmaker - The Complete Discography 1993-1996

FUCK MY LIFE I HAD A HUGE THING WRITTEN HERE AND BLOGGER DELETED IT. FUCK YOU BLOGGER!!! I BLAME MACHINES FOR SOMETHING THAT IS PROBABLY MY FAULT.

okay fuck it. basically what it was about is this band, Shotmaker.
Shotmaker was a band from Belleville, Ontario. This collection is everything recorded during their short existence.

i had some sentence about how Shotmaker is one of those bands with a cult following like Drive Like Jehu and Jawbreaker. i had said how the combination of being a genre landmark, particularly one from the early 90s, that still stands the test of time is a surefire recipe for cult status. also, all three bands ive mentioned are fucking awesome.

Occuring stylistically somewhere in the neighbourhood of Drive Like Jehu and Orchid.

'Failure' is a standout track.

The first copy of this post was better i swear. I cant write it twice because when i type these im basically just talking to myself. my writing style is talking to myself.

Hot Snakes - Automatic Midnight (2000)

The debut album from Hot Snakes, a post-hardcore band from San Diego that was around from 1999-2005. They're like a punkier Drive Like Jehu, which is fitting as this band was formed by two members of Drive Like Jehu after they split up.
The thing that really stands out to me about Hot Snakes is their unusually interesting guitar parts. Not in a meedely-meedely guitar solo way, but in an extremely harmonically dramatic rhythm guitar way.

The Vermicious Knid - Smalltown Devotion/Hometown Compulsion (2005)

Tracks:
1. Smalltown Devotion
2. Century Soldiers
3. These Werewolves
4. The Ghosts of Drunken Past
5. Pop Ideal
6. Tour of Truckstops
7. The Problem's in my Muscles
8. Bodies in Bars
9. Home and Native Land
10. Naked Strangers
11. Glowing Boys
12. Waiting for my Man
13. Hometown Compulsion

The Vermicious Knid was a band from Brantford, Ontario. They were around from 2000-2005 and released 2 EP's and one full length album, then disbanded. I wasn't even aware of The Vermicious Knid until a couple years after they ceased to exist, which is a shame as they were a fantastic band. Smalltown Devotion/Hometown Compulsion, their one full length album, never gets old for me.

Vermicious Knid lead singer Tim Ford now co-owns and operates not-for-profit music venue The Ford Plant in Brantford.
